Ted Whiting

Ted Whiting III is Vice President of Legacy Affairs for the Santa Cruz Seaside Company. Ted’s tenure at the Boardwalk began in the 1950s when his family started what has become Whiting’s Foods. He joined the Seaside Company in 1979 and launched its food service department. He was intricately involved in the remodel of the Cocoanut Grove and its subsequent operation in the 1980s. In 1989 he headed up the company’s General Services work group that supports the operation of the park. He has been actively involved with the local community and has served in many local civic groups including stints at the helm of the local Visitors’ Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, and Restaurant Association and on the board of Goodwill Industries and the Salvation Army. He was named the Santa Cruz Chamber’s Man of the Year in 1991 for his service following the 1989 earthquake.

Today, Ted is active in archiving his files and exploring the history of the Santa Cruz Seaside Company. His half-century association with the Boardwalk allows him to speak of a bygone era that is relived today in the memories of our guests. He recalls some of his favorites in this blog.
